Why is turbotax asking me to complete Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098) even though I don't have any mortgage? Is this a bug? If so, what do I need to do?

If TurboTax is asking you to complete Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098) even though you don't have a mortgage, it might be due to a previous year's data or an accidental entry. Here are some steps you can take.

  1. Delete Form 1,098:
    1. Sign into TurboTax
    2. Go to the left menu and select "Tax Tools."
    3. Click on "Tools."
    4. In the pop-up menu, select "Delete a Form."
    5. Find Form 1098 and click "Delete"
  2. Clear Cache and Cookies: After deleting the form, log out of TurboTax, clear your browser's cache and cookies, and then log back in
  3. Avoid Revisiting the Section: When you log back in, avoid revisiting the mortgage information section to prevent the form from reappearing
