If your Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098) is showing values in TurboTax without you entering any information, it could be due to a few reasons:

  • If you previously entered information related to rental or business use of your home, TurboTax might carry over the personal use portion of your mortgage interest to the deductions section
  • TurboTax sometimes pre-fills certain sections based on previous returns or imported data. This can include mortgage interest if it was part of your prior year's return.

To resolve this, you can delete the Form 1098 from your return:

  • Go to Tax Tools on the left side of the TurboTax screen.
  • Select Tools.
  • Choose Delete a Form and find Form 1098 to delete
