Why is it asking the value of foreign accounts? I don't have any foreign accounts

Turbo tax asks if the total value of my foreign accounts is less than $10,000 in 2023. I don't have any foreign accounts!

To remove this from your return:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the Search box (upper right hand side) type schedule b foreign accounts and trusts.
  3. Click the Jump to link in the search results.
  4. Answer None of the above to Tell Us About Any Foreign Bank Accounts.
  5. Click Continue.

No, that answer didn't help.  I have done those steps several times, but the worksheet always shows YES is checked for having foreign accounts less than $10,000.00 each time I check.  (I paid for Turbo Tax so that I could see the worksheets before filing.)  I don't know if it's a glitch in the program.  Last year, before I knew I could pay first and see worksheets, it had me down for $135,000,000.00 in penalties for taking early payments of an annuity!  Yes, you read that number correctly!  What a mess.  I don't need another incident because of foreign accounts this year!

I appreciated your answer, but it doesn't solve the problem.

To clarify, what worksheet are you referring to?  If possible, can you send a screenshot that includes the name of the worksheet?

Thank you for your answer, it has helped a bit, as I've gone back and spent hours going over everything and have discovered that Turbo Tax thinks one of my 1099-INT forms has box labeled FATCA checked.  It isn't, but the form received is printed in very small format.  I have tried enlarging and copying the form and adding it back in, but it still is showing FATCA box checked on the 1099-INT worksheet. My last resort is to type in the information myself, not up load the document.  Wish me luck!

It depends. You can edit your 1099 INT entries and uncheck the FATCA box. Try doing this or try your solution and let us know if this works. To edit, go to;

  1. Federal
  2. Wages and income.
  3. Interest and Dividends
  4. interest on 1099 DIV
