Why does TurboTax list my property taxes as provided on a 1098 when it wasn't?

Odd. TurboTax shows my property taxes as linked to the 1098 from my mortgage company (with that company's name listed)... but I pay my own taxes and nowhere on the 1098 is there an entry for property taxes paid. Why does my mortgage company show as having paid and shown on a 1098? Is this a bug?
Elsewhere I did enter my mortgage-holder with a 1098... but nothing about property taxes.

There are actually two places you can enter property tax paid on your home. The first one is on the 1098-INT screen. The second is in the Property taxes section. If you don't like how it shows now, you can change it.

Start here:

  1. Select Federal from the left side menu.
  2. Select Deductions and Credits toward the upper left.
  3. Expand the list and scroll down to Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)
  4. Click Edit/Add to the right.
  5. Click Edit to the right of your 1098 entry.
  6. Click Continue until you get to the page that says, Let's get the details from your 1098, at the top.
  7. Below box 5 you will see a box for Property (real estate) taxes.
  8. You can edit this amount here and leave it blank.

If you remove it from there you need to enter it in the Property tax section:

  1. Select Federal from the left side menu.
  2. Select Deductions and Credits toward the upper left.
  3. Expand the list and scroll down to Property (Real Estate) Taxes.
  4. Click Edit to the right.
  5. You can add the number here.

Please note this only changes to worksheets that you see. The Schedule A will look exactly the same either way.

Doh! I see what happened, and TurboTax is a tiny-bit misleading here. In the mortgage (1098) section one is encouraged to enter property taxes... but one should not do so if paid independently.

I deleted the taxes entry and re-added it a bit later.
TurboTax might make a minor tweak at this juncture.
