The K-40SVR Form is for the Senior or Disabled Veteran property tax refund claim.  This allows a property tax refund for senior citizens or disabled veterans, which is why you are asked for your property appraisal.  If this does not apply to you, you will want to select delete beside Form K-40SVR. You can delete Form K-40SVR by following these steps:

  1. Tap Tax Tools in the left column
  2. Tap Tools
  3. Select  Delete a Form in the Tools Center
  4. Scroll down to Form K-40PT
  5. Click Continue With My Return in the lower right when you are finished

Make sure you have answered Do you Own a home as no if you do not own property.  To check this area, follow these steps:

  1. Click Your State Returns on the left-side panel
  2. Click Edit beside Kansas
  3. Scroll down to Other situations and click Edit
  4. Click revisit Property Tax Relief Claim for Seniors and Disabled Veterans
  5. Under Own Your Home?  Click No; I didn't own my home (if you did not own your home)

If you own your home, you can enter your home's property value from your county property tax assessment.

Once those areas are fixed, you may still receive a message to enter the property appraisal value.  You can enter $0 in this box if you do not own property.

SOLUTION

If you are searching these forms looking for a complete answer with all the steps, here ya go! This is the method that you will have to use until TurboTax fixes the bug.

Before you begin, make sure that you have selected the “No I didn’t own my home” option in the K-40SVR form page:

1. Click “Your State Returns” in the left hand sidebar under “State Taxes”

2. Click the edit button next to Kansas

3. Click the edit button next to “Other Situations”

4. Click the revisit button next to “Property Tax Relief Claim for Seniors and Disabled Veterans (K-40SVR)”

5. Check the “No I didn’t own my home” option and hit continue

From there, you want to delete Form K-40SVR, Property Tax Relief Claim for Seniors and Disabled Veterans:

1. Tap Tax Tools in the left sidebar

2. Tap Tools

3. Select Delete a Form from the list in Tools Center

4. Scroll down to Form K-40SVR and click Delete

5. Click Continue With My Return in the lower right when you are finished

Then, go back through the Kansas “State Review” process and it will ask you the same questions again about form K-40SVR, even though you just deleted it. Enter “0” in this property tax question and hit continue to finalize.

Since you are not claiming any tax credits and have deleted the form in the previous steps, it will not appear in your tax return. I can confirm this as I just filed my return and that form was nowhere to be found.

NOTE: ONCE YOU DELETE THIS FORM, YOU CANNOT GO BACK TO REVIEW EARLIER SECTIONS OR IT WILL RE-CREATE THE FORM. I WOULD RECOMMEND DOING THIS ONCE YOU ARE SURE YOU ARE DONE!
