If you itemize deductions, you can claim the tithes to your church as a charitable contribution.

To enter donations to your church in TurboTax Online:

  • Open (continue) your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click My Account (top right of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the search bar, type donations.
  • In the results box, highlight donations, then click GO.
  • You'll land on the Donations to Charity page. Click Yes.
  • You'll see money given to groups including religious organizations listed as an Eligible Donation (click the 1st screenshot below to enlarge it for reference). Click Yes
  • Follow the onscreen instructions. When you get to the Let's enter your donations one at a time, enter the name of your church and click Add next to money. (Click the 2nd screenshot below for reference.)
  • Now you can Tell us about the money you gave to Church. (Click the 3rd screenshot below for reference.) When finished, click Done with This Donation.

Note: If using the TurboTax CD/Download software, you'll use the Find function (instead of "My Account") to search for the topic.
