Where do I deduct expenses from fostering dogs for a 501(c)(3) rescue?

If the out-of-pocket expenses were incurred for a charitable organization (check below link to see if your organization qualifies) you may claim them as charitable cash donations (part of your itemized deductions) in the Deductions & Credits section.

https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/

Data entry in Turbo Tax:

1. Federal Taxes

2. Deductions & Credits, Jump to Full List

3. Charitable Donations, select Donations to Charity

Please be sure to obtain an official letter from the charity you volunteer for, confirming that you foster for their organization. An approved/registered charity is one that has a recognized 501(c)(3) designation as a Not-for-Profit organization.

Hi . I have 6 fosters through a 501 rescue . I pay everything for them . Do I get a percentage back or the entire amount of what I've spent and have proof of ? Thank you

If you are not paying anything to the 501 directly, then there is nothing you can deduct for the pet rescue animals on a tax return.
