What qualifies as a temporary workplace?

If I provide services at multiple locations on a as needed basis would I be able to claim travel related business expenses?

Yes, as long as you are either an independent contractor or self-employed, if you provide services as multiple locations you would be able to claim the travel costs to those locations as a business related travel expense.

A temporary workplace is any place that you perform services on a short term basis or not on a regular basis.  In other words, it is not your office or your primary work location.  If you have a route that you run, like say delivering batteries to 50 different businesses in an area, then those would all eligible to claim for travel expenses.

If you are a W-2 employee, you would not be able to claim these expenses as business expenses as employee job related expenses are no longer deductible on your federal return.  However, some states do still allow employee business expenses.  If you walk through your state return, if your state does allow these expenses, TurboTax will give you the option to enter them.
