What-if Worksheet" re: child tax credit & earned income credit error - IF you are not claiming the EIC, I have found a workaround

This only works on the desktop version as far as I can tell. IF you are not claiming the earned income credit in any way, shape or form, to fix this and file you must:

switch to forms view (up at the top, in the blue bar)

Navigate to the "EIC Worksheet" form

About a third of the way down, you should find a section titled "Election to Use 2016 Earned Income for Eligible Hurricane Victims Smart Worksheet"

Line A - Elect to use ... - check "no"

Line B - Taxpayer is eligible - check "no"

Line C - Earned Income for EIC from your 2016 return - set to zero

Return to Step by Step view, and continue through the process. It should allow you to e-file when you get to the end. It just worked for me.

Would this work on version bought in store?

It worked for my desktop version (Deluxe) from Amazon.
It was a physical product with a CD (not a download)

One correction - it's the EIC "Credit" Worksheet. But it works

Possibly different names in different versions. In my CD copy of Deluxe, it's just called EIC Worksheet. Same form though, I would imagine.

There is a tab at the top when you choose the form.  Be sure it is on the worksheet!  It took me a few minutes to discover it.  Thank you so much of posting the fix for this problem.  It was really worrying me.  Just e-file my taxes so I can rest easy now.

I have the deluxe version on a PC, but this doesn't work for me.  On my Earned Income Wks it doesn't show lines A/B/C, but rather they're all numbered.  There's no mention or selection for elect to use, etc...   :(
Really aggravated with TT right now

The form on my Costco CD-installed Deluxe version doesn't have the "Hurricane Victims" lines. But the errors still occur, nonetheless.  Suppose I'll have to wait for Turbotax fix.

The form is there. I thought the same thing. There’s a button on the left after you click view forms. It says open forms. After you click that there’s a search space. Just type earned income and click the second option. I forgot the exact title but it wasn’t the worksheet. You’ll see it there

Yes, you're right. The EIC worksheet and the Earned Income Credit form are different. I found the proper one and made the corrections, and the fix works. However, I had to change the pre-populated dollar amount in line C to zero, which means I'm changing something Turbotax had already calculated. That does worry me a little.
