What if I paid for underprivileged children to go to camp can I deduct that expense?

You can take a charitable deduction if you make the contribution through a recognized (501(c)(3)) charity. This could include the camp itself, if it is recognized as such.

If you pay a for-profit camp directly on behalf of children, and there's no association with a charity, there is no possible deduction.
