What happens if there is no information on the K-1 form in regards to the Foreign Country or US Possession and Gross Income? What do you fill in on turbo tax?

If you do not have any foreign related information being reported on the Schedule K-1, you will not qualify to claim a foreign tax credit.  You will then enter the K-1 with the non-foreign info, here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • After sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box , type in K1 and Enter
  • Select the 1st choice on the search results - Jump to K1
  • Follow prompts to enter info in different boxes

You may qualify to claim a foreign tax credit only If you have paid taxes to both foreign and the US tax authorities.  To claim this foreign tax credit, you would need to file a Form 1116 Foreign Tax Credit. After entering the info correctly, the amount should show on Schedule 3 line 1 and line 20 on Form 1040.
