What happened to the step in which TurboTax offers to reduce taxes by depositing to a Traditional IRA?

I am an expatriate living abroad. As such, my annual tax filing has changed to:

  1. Take either FEIE or FTC
  2. Use the automatic 2-month extension (In the country where I live and work, I only get the required forms after April 15).

TurboTax has been very helpful in navigating through the maze of forms and calculation, but I just realized that one of the important steps that used be present whenever I owe taxes (i.e. not entitled for a refund) is no longer presented to me: Deposit to Traditional IRA.

Back then, when I lived and worked in the US, I could reduce owed taxes significantly by depositing some amount into a Traditional IRA account. If I forgot about it, TurboTax would intelligently present a page/step in which I can take care of that.

But now, when taking FTC, owing a certain amount to the IRS, this step/page is no longer present.

Why is that?

Is it because I am filing after April 15th, thus missing the deadline for deposit?

Or is it because I am taking FTC?

Or something else?

The deadline to contribute to an IRA is the due date of the tax return without extensions.  The due date of your 2023 tax return without extensions was April 15, 2024.
