Was billed by my state for addl taxes due from 2016 which I paid in 2017. I do not see where in TT to enter the addl taxes paid.

i was billed by my state for additional taxes due from 2016 which I paid in 2017. I do not see anywhere in TT to enter the additional taxes paid. I understand I cannot deduct the interest or penalty.

There is a section for these items under Deductions and Credits.

For this item, it might be easier to follow the step by step since it looks like you might be using the desktop software:
  • Click Federal Taxes
  • Deductions and Credits
  • You may have to click “Ill Choose what to work on” or "Show All" or "Check for More Credits" to get full list to appear
  • Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  • Scroll down to Other Income Taxes and click start
  • Scroll down to Other Income Taxes Paid in 2017
  • Click Start next to Balance due on your 2016 state taxes paid in 2017
  • Enter your tax payments

If you have trouble finding it let me know and I can update the answer with screenshots.

Thanks for your quick response TurboTaxAnthony. I had done what you recommended but expected to see a change in either Federal or State balance due because I paid more in State taxes - guess that's wishful thinking :(
