Vehicle Registration Fees

Why don't my vehicle registration fees show under deductions for 2019 as they did for 2018?

It depends.

You may need to scroll down to see the input section.

  1. Go to the Federal section in the left panel
  2. Select Deductions & Credits
  3. Select Cars and Other Things You Own - if you do not see this, you may have to scroll down and select Show More
  4. Select Car Registration Fees and enter you fees here.

Vehicle registration fees show on the "Your 2019 Deductions and Credits" page, however when I go to the "Douglas and Mary Here are Your 2018 and 2019 Deductions & Credits" page under Deductions Standard Deductions the Vehicle Registration Fees shows $740 for 2018 and zero for 2019. Should show $722 for 2019.

Check to see if you Itemized Deductions in 2018 and are using the Standard Deduction in 2019.  If you used the Standard Deduction in 2019, the comparison table you are seeing may not "count" the vehicle registration fees.

If that is not the case, more information may help resolve your issue.  For example, what is show in your comparison for 2019 "state and local taxes paid" (of which vehicle registration fees are a component)?  And what is shown on line 5c of your Schedule A?
