Form 8911 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Tax Credit is listed as ready to print and E-File on your Tax Form Availability page.
Yet when I attempt to file, I am told Turbo Tax is planning to make updates around 2/20/24 and I must check back to confirm eligibility for this credit. This date has continuously changed to 7 days from the current date. When will Form 8911 be available to file?
I've been advised that, although the form is generally ready, some calculations that are new for 2023 are still being worked on, and that the tentative day of release for Form 8911 is February 21, 2024.
Users can check this online tool for the availability of both Federal and State forms.
Thank you for your patience while the programmers are working out the final details.

I am having the same issue, TurboTax actually cleared my return and let me e-file, but my return got rejected and now i get that same message. The tool in your post says it is ready to print and e-file. What's going on?
I have been trying to can an answer to that question for weeks...I suspect we dont have an answer because Intuit doesnt have one either??? Beyond frustrating and first time i can say i will not be a return customer unless i receive at least some communication soon!
Well the tool could be wrong.
..BUT Other than that...the forms are only RARELY available on a Wednesday...always wait until a Thursday or Friday to recheck if the form is truly ready.
Plan ahead to Ignore any date that is a Wednesday, and wait 1 or 2 days longer.
It's Thursday. TT updated but Form 8911 is still flagged in TT for Windows. Please escalate this to resolution.
The following information is the text for an error message generated by TurboTax when an input has been made for Form 8911:
The IRS made updates to Form 8911 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit. TurboTax is planning to make updates around this by 02/21/2024. Please check back then to be sure you are eligible to receive this credit.
The error condition is to insure that you do not file the tax return before the updates are made in the program.
The IRS updated rules on January 19, 2024. Intuit has had a month to update this form and continues to drag their feet for something that takes a day to do!
Intuit played fast and loose with 8936 last year and the year before, moving the date several times.

100% the same for me. Turbotax lets you electronically file then get rejected, knowing the form is not ready. Poor software execution for a form change. The software is still broke as I could file again and get rejected again because of Turbotax poorly written code. Look out for the end user PLEASE.

As I previously noted, the estimated completion date of this update has been a moving target and is now 2/28/2024. Turbo Tax gladly accepted my payment to file, then did not allow me to complete the submission despite your form availability tool stating Form 8911 is ready to print and E-File.
It’s not difficult to look up rather or not my census tract qualifies for this credit, the January IRS update referenced, yet I am stuck waiting for Turbo Tax to figure this out.
People, please keep bumping this thread, this is an absolutely ridiculous. People are waiting to get a lot of money back on their taxes on these credits, any tax professional that's almost the same price as the software would have had this done in a few hours, yet a multibillion dollar company cant figure out a simple form that was updated mid January. If enough people complain maybe they will do something about it.
I suggest requesting a refund if you already paid as I did:
Yes I awoke this morning planning to file and
got the same notice. Very angry it got bumped again until 2/28! Gladly took my payment entry and charged my card though! Very poor customer service here. Not sure I will be using TT moving forward.
All I can say is that the app did not show me and error and did let me file. Of course the return was rejected and now I am waiting with all the others for Intuit to get off their butt and do something.....
It states:
US | Form 8911 | Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit | Yes | Yes |
yet the app will not let me file, even after a manual update. So what now?
Same here. Frustrating, as I've been forced to wait for almost a month and yet the date continues to slide. Going to apply for a refund.
2/22 update. Some progress but more delays. So this morning TT asked me
to enter my address and also my census tract ID. Once I did all that it then told me that the update would not be available until 2/29. The target keeps moving folks. I suggest you locate your census tract number. The IRS instructions can be found here under the what’s new section.

Same here. I filled in the information, and now it says another week. The backend of the program still says the solution will come by 2/21, so they didn't even bother to update that app. I just want my refund! Can I charge Intuit interest for the delay?
The IRS recently clarified changes to Form 8911 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit. TurboTax is planning to make updates around this by February 29, 2024.
Wrong!! As of this morning, 2/23, the date has now been pushed to March 1st. When is TT going to get their sh-t together? You are holding up my EV rebate, and I have had enough!
Say 3/1/2024 for me as of yesterday. I'd like to file, could we get this done Intuit!!!???!
TT, stop your stupid bots from providing unacceptable replies. There is clearly an issue with how you are handling Form 8911. I am sick and tired of it, and just deleted the d*#m form so I could file my tax return. This is my last year using TT after at least a decade. It's not just your inability to fix this error, but your apparent unwillingness to let us know what you are actually doing about it - beyond extending the "fix" date each day. Buh-bye!
Another turbo blog thread has a little more detail of the hurdles that turbo seems to unable to overcome.
Funny, turbo competitors, like H&R Block, Tax Slayer, AARP, Hewitt and others seem to have the wherewithal to navigate this simple 8911 form in a timely fashion. Not suggesting, but just saying, you might consider an alternative next year.
