Turbotax will not let me make the standard deduction.

It says my spouse itemized, but my spouse did not itemize, in fact, she has not even filed her taxes yet. Also, I want to claim the rent I paid, but it does not offer that option.

So you are filing married filing separately?   (usually the worst way to file)  When you file MFS both spouses must file the same way---both use standard deduction or both use itemized deductions.   And you have to tell the software which you will use.

RENT

There is not a rent deduction or credit on your Federal return.  If your state has anything for renters you will be prompted to enter your rent info when you complete your state return.  As far as I know, the states that have anything for rent are Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC, and Wisconsin.
