TurboTax is saying I have to upgrade from the free edition because I have foreign account(s). I do not have any foreign accounts. Is this a scam?

They have a trick question:”Is the value of your foreign accounts more than $10,000?” Possible answers are only yes or no. There is  no space to reply I have no foreign accounts.

No this is not a scam or trick question. The IRS requires TurboTax to ask that question. If you do not have foreign account(s), select "No."

Thanks. I did that and answered the other questions in the negative. The program still claims I have foreign income or assets and claims I have to upgrade.

if you do not have an abundance of income to report in your return, go to the black left pane of your return and select clear and start over. All of your personal information should still remain in your return but it will ask the interview questions again.

just make sure this time you indicate you have no foreign income.
