turbotax form 8889-t line 7 is filled out incorrectly

I am well over 55, have a family hdhp, and am married.    Line 7 should have a $1,000 additional contribution amount but is empty.  How do override Turbotax?

Please check the instructions for Line 7 Additional Contribution Amount:

If, at the end of 2021, you were age 55 or older and married, use the Additional Contribution Amount Worksheet (in these instructions) if both of the following apply:

  1. You or your spouse had family coverage under an HDHP and were, or were considered to be, an eligible individual on the first day of the month.
  2. You were not enrolled in Medicare for the month.

If items (1) and (2) apply to all months during 2021, enter $1,000 on line 7.

Strangely, when I click on the worksheet on the IRS web site, it doesn't update Turbotax. /s

Why do you think that TurboTax needs an override?

Does your spouse have an HSA? If so, is your spouse 55+?

Just to be sure, you are the primary taxpayer and you are asking about the 8889-T, right?

I think Turbotax needs an override because I read the IRS instructions for form 8889 (multiple times).  Whether or not my spouse is over 55 is irrelevant according to the IRS instructions, but she is.  We are married filing jointly.  I have an HSA.  My employer funded the HSA with $8200 (as stated on my w2).  We have a family HDHP.  I am over 55.  We're not enrolled in medical care.  The yearly contribution limit is $7200 plus a $1,000 catch up contribution.   My wife does not have an HSA.  I did not make any personal contributions.

Line 3 should contain $7200.  It does.  Line 7 should contain $1,000.  It does not.  Turbotax is saying I have excess contributions.  I don't.  When I override line 7 manually, Turbotax won't let me file electronically.

The example for line 7 in the IRS instructions is an example of married, 55+, with a family HDHP and a wife who either does not have an HSA, or it does not matter if she has an HSA.

RaifH made me double check my birth date, which was wrong.  Fixing that solved my problem.
