Turbotax does not recognize my charitable donation for 2020 even though a $300 above the line deduction was allowed by the CARES act for 2020. How can this be remedied?

You will need to enter the charitable donation as an itemized deduction in the "Deductions & Credits" tab using the "Donations to Charity" topic.

 

First, scroll down to the "Donations to Charity" topic and "Edit".   "Delete" the donation.  Continue through the interview all the way through "Done with Charitable Donations".  

 

Next, return to the "Donations to Charity" topic and add the donation.  Go all the way through the interview and be sure to click "Wrap Up Tax Breaks" at the bottom of the page.  Then "Continue" until you arrive at the page selecting the "Standard Deduction" for you and click "Continue."

 

Everything should update properly to include up to $300 donation allowed with a standard deduction.
