Turbotax did not mark my 17 year old correctly on tax form - Rejected by IRS

turbotax did not mark my 8812 correctly for my 17 year old who would not qualify for the child tax credit, but would qualify for the ACTC. I cannot find a way in TT to select the ACTC. TT says it is automatic, but it did not mark my form correctly so it was rejected.

Your child  is  too old (over 16) for the CTC AND the ACTC.  You can still claim your child, as a dependent. What you can't claim is the Child tax credit. This comes as a big surprise to many parents the year their child turns 17. A child over age 16 no longer qualifies for the Child Tax credit (CTC). Although a child can still be a student dependent through age 23, and a qualifying child for EIC,  the Child Tax Credit expires the year they turn 17 and you no longer get the $2000 CTC and ACTC. Instead you will get the non-refundable (up to) $500 Other Dependent Credit.

No.  Sorry.  You misunderstood the rules for the child tax credit.   Your  17 year old does not qualify for ACTC.   You lose that when they turn 17.    You get the $500 credit for other dependents instead.   That credit is non-refundable and can be used to reduce your tax liability.
