Turbo tax wants me to enter a cost for Form 8829 home office asset worksheet - do they want the cost of purchasing the house?

I answered the home office questions and turbotax created a Form 8829 Asset worksheet for the home office and it asks for the cost.  Is this the cost of the house?

You can choose to depreciate the cost of the home office.   You would need the cost of the house minus estimated land value to come up with the adjusted basis of the house.   Then calculate the square foot of the home office divided by the total square foot of the house to come up with the percentage.   That percentage would be applied for depreciation.

Turbotax doesn't enable me to update form 8829 values, even when I fill out a supporting worksheet. Why not?

You need to go back to the source data that you entered (in this case the home office information) and make any changes at that point.
