The mortgage is in my deceased husbands name but I make the payments. I can deduct the mortgage interest?

You must be legally liable for the mortgage in order to deduct the interest. If you have obligation to the mortgage, then you may deduct the interest. If not, you are not able to take the deduction even if you are making the payments.
