The Form 5498-SA (contributions to your Health Savings Account (HSA), Archer MSA, or Medicare Advantage MSA) is just for informational purposes and doesn't need to be entered into TurboTax.  Please keep it for your records.

Here's how to enter your 1099-SA form (distributions from your MSA or HSA):

  1. With your return open in TurboTax, search for 1099-SA (upper- or lower-case, with or without the dash).
    • Click the Jump to 1099-SA link in the search results.
  2. This will take you to the Select the health-related accounts you had screen.
  3. Check the box for the type of account you have (it may already be selected for you) and click Continue.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the form.

What if my HSA contributions are post-tax (lazy employer who does not want to add it as pre-tax)?

I am retired. I do not get a W-2 but a 1099-R statement from my retirement trust.  There is no box on the 1099-R for HSA contributions. I received a 5498-SA from my former employer, showing that they contributed an amount to my HSA, as part of my retirement benefit. When loading my contribution to the HSA in addition to this former employer contribution, I do not see this contribution in turbo tax, only a spot for my personal contribution.

How do I get the former employer contribution recognized in turbo tax?

Under the Deductions & Credits menu, confirm the following:

  • Expand the menu for Medical
  • Click Start/Revisit next to HSA, MSA Contributions
  • Confirm the account ownership and click Continue
  • Continue in through the screens until you reach Let's enter your HSA contributions
  • As the contributions were not reported on the W-2, type the dollar amount in the box next to Any contributions you personally made

@al126 You don't need to enter your ABLE contributions, as they are not tax-deductible.  However, any distributions you receive from your account are tax-free, including earnings on your account, if used for disability-related expenses.
