Self employed (piano tuner). I go from home to wherever the piano is, then go to another piano, or go home or to office. Can I deduct mileage on each leg of the trip?

Can I deduct mileage from home to first job? Mileage from first job to office? Mileage from first job to second job? Mileage from first job to home (not go to office)?

@robertcampbellfamily the rule is that both endpoints of the travel must be a business location.  Your customers are your business location.  Your office is your business location.  You home is not a business location (assuming no home office).

so travel from home to a business location (or the reverse) is commuting.  Travel from one business location to another is business travel since both end points are business locations.

Assuming that you don’t have a home office, you can deduct mileage from one job to another but not from home to the first job or from the last job to home.

Commuting miles are not deductible so the mileage to your office from your home would not be deductible.

Mileage from home to your first job would not be deductible, nor would mileage home.

The mileage between jobs would be deductible.

If you are running from your office to various jobs, those miles would be deductible.
