Refund amount reduces after entering social security number of dependent

Hi all.

I had removed one dependent (child) just to see what the impact would be on my tax refund original amount calculated WITH the child included.

Found that it dropped some from the original amount.

But when I added the child back in, it was odd......I walked thru all the dependent questions and added the child....my refund jumped up to more than the original number.....

But then TT asked for the child's SS#, so I entered it and the refund went back down to the original amount.

Why would entering the SS affect things?

I'm not sure why your refund would increase when you started to add the dependent. However, nothing would be accurate until you entered the social security number. Also, nothing will be 100% reliable until you go through the review and correct any errors or missing entries.
