I have a 20 year old daughter who is a full-time student away at school. The software keeps asking whether she earned more or less than $4300, and if she earned $4300+ (which she did), she does not qualify as a dependent. My understanding, so long as she is a full-time student she should qualify as a dependent. We have checked outside sources and found this to be the case. Nowhere did it ASK me if she was a full-time student... however I did enter her 1098-T information later, and nothing changed. I think this will make a change in my refund/payment. I have an 18yo daughter who is also a full time student, and the earnings question was not posed under her information. Should my 20yo full time student be a qualified dependent??
Go back to Personal Info > Dependents, and see if the Date of Birth for the 20 year is correct. You may see the Student question in that section as well.
You weren't asked about income for the 18 year old because there's one set of dependent rules for under age 19, and a different one for students 19-23.
