Property (real estate) taxes paid

When you enter 1098 information, there is

Box 1 - Mortgage interest

Box 2 - Outstanding mortgage principal

Box 3 - Mortgage origination date

Box 5 - Mortgage insurance premiums

Property (real estate) taxes paid.  For this one, are you supposed to fill out what you paid for the property taxes only if impounded taxes or what you paid for property taxes in general?  Because there is a section after this that asks for "property taxes".

When your property/real estate taxes are included on your 1098, you’ll enter them as part of your Mortgage Interest in the property or real estate tax field. If If you paid additional property tax not shown on your Form 1098, you’ll enter them separately as property/real estate taxes.

For property tax from Form 1098:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1098”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1098”
  4. Continue until you get to the "Let's get the details from your 1098" screen
  5. Scroll down and enter your property tax

For additional property taxes not shown on Form 1098 (Mortgage):

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “property tax”
  3. Click on “Jump to property tax”
  4. Answer "Yes" to the question "Did you pay property or real estate taxes in 2023?"
  5. Enter your property/real estate taxes on the next screen.
