Overseas Student trying to file taxes from UK

I am an American who goes to University in the UK.

My Turbotax automatically assumes I live in America and doesn't give me the option to say I live overseas. I have gone through the whole return process the best I can, but I didn't make any money in the U.S. in 2022. Therefore, I have no W-2 to fill out. This is causing an issue; Turbotax is telling me I have to file by mail because many of my tax lines are $0 (since I didn't make any money in America in 2022).

Does anyone know how I am supposed to file from overseas? Also, I didn't realize I even had to file my taxes if I didn't make any money in the U.S. Do I get an automatic extension to June since I live overseas?

Thanks in advance.

Did you have any income from the UK (or anywhere in the world), and did you report that on the tax return?

If so, is nothing being taxed because you are using the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion on Form 2555?

I did make money in the UK; I've worked a few part-time jobs since living here. However, I don't get taxed here because I make under a certain amount a month.

I don't actually know what a 2555 form is-- it is my first year filing taxes when I haven't made any money in the U.S.

I also read that I don't need to report the money I made overseas as a student, but I could be incorrect on that.

As a US Citizen, you are required to report your worldwide income on your US tax return.  So you need to have been reporting all of your UK income on your US tax returns.

TurboTax is not particularly great with many aspects of anything foreign, so you may consider going to a good tax professional that is experienced with such things.

you need a US-based Credit card to even pay for TurboTax.

visit the IRS at https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

to find truly free filing.

You will be allowed to enter your foreign address.
