Other taxes: What are the entries on Sched A line 6 (desktop version 2024)

I want to record an income tax paid in a foreign country. I filled out the amount in the amount column but turbo tax has two blank spaces that need to filled in. What information is it expecting? I put a description in the first box but don't know what needs to go into the second box. It is a desktop version for 2024.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what schedule or worksheet you are looking at so I can't answer your question directly. However, it sounds like you are making entries directly on forms. I suggest you use the question and answer routine in TurboTax to apply for your foreign tax credit or take a deduction for them, so that will you furnish all of the information required as follows:

To apply for a credit for foreign taxes paid or accrued during the year:

1. From the Federal section of TurboTax, go to the Deductions and Credits section

2. Find Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

3. Choose Foreign Taxes

4. Indicate that you paid foreign taxes or have credits from prior years

5. Work through the section until you see an option to take a deduction or credit, the credit is usually better

6. Complete the rest of the section

Actually, that will take me thru the credit path but I want to deduct it because it is a small amount. The line is question is, Form->Schedule A> Line 6. It contains two blank boxes and one column for the amount. My question was about what is expected entry in those two boxes.

To answer your specific question, Schedule A line 6

The first area is to enter the type of tax, you can use "Other Taxes".

The next area is for the full amount.

The column is for the allowed deduction (in case there is a limitation)

As posted above, you can take the navigational steps @ThomasM125 supplied and select to take the deduction rather than the credit.

If you select deduction rather than credit, it will put the tax on Schedule A as you wish.
