On form 8812 we originally qualified for 2 children but we had our 3rd child in November. So when it asks for the number would I put 2 or 3?

When asked for the information on the 6419 only enter the 2 reported on that notice ... you only got the advance on 2 kids. Read the screen :

The program will compute the additional credit for the new child automatically if you entered them in the MY INFO tab correctly ... be careful to read all the words on this screen as this is where the most errors are made :
