My mortgage interest is not moving to schedule A

I have mortgage interest to deduct but it will not transfer to schedule A. When I read the limitation on mortgage interest i am well below the limits.

When TurboTax asked if the loan is secured by a property of yours, did you answer Yes? If the loan is not secured by the property the interest is not deductible.

You may want to delete your Form 1098 entry and re-enter it through the interview process to ensure you entered everything correctly if you are anticipating itemizing your deductions.  If it turns out the standard deduction gets you a better deduction, TurboTax will calculate that for you and will not create Schedule A with your other forms.  See What's my standard deduction for 2022? for details on the standard deduction amounts.

To delete your 1098 and re-enter it in TurboTax CD/Download versions you can follow these steps:

  1. Within your return, click on the Forms icon in the upper right of the screen to switch to Forms mode.
  2. Scroll down in the menu bar on the left and select your form.
  3. Click the Delete Form button at the bottom left of the preview screen.
  4. Confirm the deletion then click the Step-by-Step icon in the upper right of the screen.
  5. Select the magnifying glass and search for 1098. Select the Jump-to link.
  6. Answer the interview questions according to the information on your form.
  7. Continue entering your other deductions so TurboTax can calculate the best deduction option for your, either standard or itemized (if itemizing is best or if you choose to itemize, this is when the Schedule A will be populated).
