My form 4868 (automatic extension) was rejected when filed via TurboTax online

I filed an for an extension, and received a text an hour later that it had been rejected and that I should sign in to fix the application.  When I sign in, how do I see why the form was rejected, and how to fix?  ... or do I just file another extension?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you @MarilynG1 for the quick response!  The email says:

R0000-902-01 - Taxpayer TIN in the Return Header must not be the same as a TIN of a previously accepted electronic return for the return type and tax period indicated in the tax return.

I tried filing a second extension and received the same error.  The strange thing is that I haven't completed the electronic return yet... at least that what TurboTax tells me "We notice you haven't e-filed any of your returns".

I am getting a refund so it sounds like I don't need to file an extension, which is good to know.

Any thoughts on how I can check if a return has already been filed under my SS#?  I tried the IRS site, but it requires I know the exact amount of the refund/amount due, which of course I don't since I don't think I've filed one yet.

Is there a 'Fix My Extension' link in either your email or when you Sign In?

If you are getting a Refund, you don't need to file an Extension.

Here's more info on Extension was Rejected that may help you.

The message indeed implies that a 2022 tax return has already been filed under the Social Security Number you provided on the Form 4868.

You could obtain a transcript of your tax account from the IRS:

Thanks!  I'll try that!
