My e-file was rejected due to a 1116 error. How do I delete 1116 and renter?

My E-File was rejected with the following reason:

/Return/   ReturnData/   IRS1116/     ForeignTaxCreditSource/   USTaxWithheldOnDividendAmt - Data in the return is missing or invalid.

I manually reentered the data, but the e-file was rejected again.   There must be something that I am missing.  How do I delete the 1116 and start over?

Yes you can delete the form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit).

To Delete a form:

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
    1. My Info
    2. Federal
    3. State
    4. Review
    5. File
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop down select Tools
  4. On the Pop-Up menu select Delete a Form
  5. This will give you all of the forms in your return
  6. Scroll down to the form you want to delete (Form 1116)
  7. Select the Form
  8. Click on Delete.

Be sure that you  are eligible for the Foreign tax credit.

Taxes paid to other countries qualify for the foreign tax credit when:

  • They were levied on your income.
  • You were legally obliged to pay them.
  • You did pay them.
  • You did not gain from paying them, and
  • The United States has not sanctioned the country.

Eligible taxes include income tax you paid to local and provincial governments. They do not include sales, value-added, real estate or luxury taxes paid to a foreign government.
