military buyback

Two questions.....I bought back 9 years of regular military time. It was added to my government time totaling 29 years. I retired in 2021.  Will I receive the Federal, State taxes I already paid on the 9 years? Or will my pension be non-tax based on my life expectancy or just a portion of my pension?

@miadiastep3 - look at your 1099-R from 2021.  what is in Box 9 - That should be all your after tax contributions to your pension..... that is what should be amortized over your life expectancy.

Is box 2a less than Box 1? which means part of your pension is not taxable.

or is box 2a blank with box 2b checked?
