Is there a way to tell whether I used the standard or actual mileage deduction? On all the boxes in the actual expenses section it says last year I entered 0.

If you filed a return last year and claimed your auto, it sounds like you used the mileage deduction. You can look at last years return and look on the Car and Truck Worksheet in your return. This will reveal to you what deduction you used.

I do see on the schedule c part 2 line 9 there is a number there but when I go to part 4 information on your vehicle there is no information listed So I'm not sure if it's the standard or the actual because it doesn't say explicitly the only thing listed is see additional vehicle information and when I look there it just shows the total miles for each vehicle and ask the three questions about being available during off duty if another vehicle was available and is there evidence to support the deduction. I'm trying to see if I can claim the standard this year by seeing if I claimed the standard last year which was the first year the vehicle was used for business.

In your TurboTax workpapers from last year, look for the Car and Truck Expenses worksheet. Part IV of that worksheet will have one box checked: Line 15 is for Standard Mileage; Line 26 is Actual Expenses.

Your other option is to recalculate the mileage deduction and compare that to the Car Expenses shown on Schedule C Line 9. The 2022 mileage deduction was 58.5 cents/mile for January through June and 62.5 cents/mile for July through December.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I finally read the question that they asked and I noticed that it said do you want to use the standard mileage deduction again so given this wording it lets me know for sure that I did use the standard mileage deduction last year. Thank you so much for your responses!
