Yes.  The Child Tax Credit is a non-refundable credit.  This means that it is limited to your tax liability.

The Additional Child Tax Credit is a refundable credit.  It uses all the same information, but if you still have credit left you would get a refund.

So would the IRS still hold my return until 2/15?  I'm using the Child Tax Credit.

No, the IRS is only holding returns with the Earned Income Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit.

@cspetry13487 @TurboTaxDexter I only claimed the child tax credit and not EIC or ACTC however when I check my refund status on where's my refund it shows they received however it tells me to refer to notification regarding holding my refund due to the new law. I wonder if that's just a generic message everyone gets

I'm getting the same message when I check my status. I filed on 1/10 with the child tax credit and not the EIC, it was received/approved by the IRS on 1/13. My co-worker received her federal refund today and she filed just a few days before me.

@crodriguez80 I also heard now that the IRS is making all employers send their W2 by 1/31/17 to them so now I'm wondering if our refunds will not be processed until they receive the employers W2 to match what was on our refunds.. also my transcripts I'm only able to view the bottom two which show no refund code however on one it states a refund date of 2/10/2017 so I'm hoping by Friday it will update and show an approval by 2/10 to get the refund by 2/13 fingers crossed this sucks!!
