If insurance will not pay a FDA approved medical expense, claiming it is experimental, is it tax deductible

My husband had HIFU for prostate cancer treatment. The procedure is FDA approved but was denied by insurance. Is this an approved medical deduction?

Yes, if a doctor prescribed it, and there was a medical need.
