If I make a charitable donation in 2018 that qualifies for a 2017 Arizona income tax credit, can I take the deduction on my 2017 Federal return?

No, donations are deductible in the year they are made, so if it was made in 2018 it is not deductible on your 2017 return.

In this case, how is this handled in TT? 2017 taxes (claimed for state only, not federal) 2018 taxes (claimed for federal only, not state)?

Please post this as a new question with more details.  Also, include which state you are claiming a deduction for as many states do not allow you to itemize your return.

Did anyone on this question string ever get this answered?  I'm still having the same/similar question.  Arizona state taxes.  Made a donation in year 2018, which was a credit for Arizona state taxes.  Now, when filing 2018 Federal taxes, I understand it can be a Federal donation deduction.  My question is what do I need to to with Arizona?  it pulls over the Federal info to the Arizona state return, right?  So this is all OK or there's some where I need to make an adjustment?
