If I drive to a gig for work, can I count miles driving from work to the gig instead of from home? Sometimes I need to stop by work & get equipment & sometimes I do not.

Hello.

Sometimes my job requires me to pick up equipment from the school and drive to a gig and sometimes I just meet my students at the gig from home. Can I claim miles if I do NOT stop by work first?

If you drive between work sites, such as the school and the gig, that is deductible.  Driving from home to a job site or back to home from a job site, such as the school or the gig , is not deductible, because that would just be commuting.
