If I am a home based travel agent paid as independent contractor and I go on a trip just to attend tours of facilities and familiarization with location what can I claim?

I sell mostly Disney trips, and I am going on an overnight trip just to do a Cruise Ship tour and resort tours to familiarize myself with the locations and options.

Travel deducted by Travel Agents as a means of helping them better perform their work is always eyed with suspicion by the IRS.  The requirements for proving the travel was only for business purposes are very stringent.  I'm going to add here an answer from another Enrolled Agent that's very detailed about the requirements.  If you feel you can meet and defend your deduction, based on these requirements, you could deduct the expense.  Make sure to click the link near the end to review the court case, a case where a travel agent was disallowed a deduction because her record-keeping was not meticulous enough.
