If I already filed taxes and got my taxes refund do my children qualify for the third stimulus check and the boost of child tax credit?

My children are 8 years old each. I want to know if the qualify for both the stimulus check each and the boost of child tax credit or only one of the two .

If you claimed your two 8-year-olds on your 2020 income tax return, then they would each be eligible for a payment of $1,400 and a $3,000 per child tax credit. Children who have not attained the age of as of the close of the calendar year are entitled to a $3,600 credit.

Just be aware that the IRS has not yet issued procedures to implement the provisions of this new tax law.

The new enhanced child tax credit begins July 1, and will be paid directly to taxpayers during the year rather than being applied as a credit at the end of the year on your tax return.  Congress directed the IRS to make the payments monthly or as often as practical. We will all have to wait for guidance from the IRS to see how they will implement this new payment.

For the $1400 credit, the IRS will base the credit on your 2020 tax return if you have filed it and they have processed it. If not, they will base the credit payment on your 2019 tax return. The IRS website has not yet been updated to indicate what their exact procedures or timetable will be.
