If donating new items with receipt from purchase, is that suitable as valuation when coupled with a donation receipt?

Tax question: if I donate brand new items with receipt, can I deduct the price paid since they are new with receipt? Or do I have to calculate a used book value based on comparibles/get appraisal? Anyone know?
