No you will not be able to deduct any home related expenses while working for a company. Since tax reform became law in 2018, generally only self-employed people can claim tax deductions when working from home. Working as an employee and for yourself doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from taking these tax deductions. The deductions have to be related to your self-employed income rather than your employee work.

Do you get a W-2 or do you get a 1099-NEC?

If you get a W-2 you are an employee and you cannot deduct job-related expenses.

If you get a 1099-NEC you are an independent contractor, which means you are in business for yourself. You are the business, and  you can deduct business expenses.
