I took standard deduction for federal bc it is higher but I want to itemize for NYS. How can I do this? IRS and NYS rules say I can. Itemized is $12k vs NY of $8k.

My itemized deductions are $11,830. Federal standard is $12,850 so it makes sense to take Fed standard. But NY standard is only $8,000 so itemizing makes more sense. TT is not prompting me for it. NY tax rules say I can still itemize even though I took Federal standard. https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/itemized-deductions.htm

TurboTax automatically gives you the higher of the New York standard or itemized deduction. There is no choice whether to choose one or the other.

The screen Let's Review Your New York Numbers will show whether you are getting the standard or itemized deductions.
