New for 2017 is the following flaw: If there is an entry in 1099-DIV box 6, TT will immediately and incorrectly require an entry in box 6d and will mark it as an error until an amount is entered.  Box 6d is “the foreign source amount included in dividends.”  If F1116 is filled out, there is a screen to input that amount which TT will insert into box 6d and thus clear the error.  If F1116 is not filled out because the user elects to use the exemption or the deduction, then bring up the 1099-DIV worksheet and type a zero into box 6d to remove the error.

Is TT asking for the box 6d amount during the error check?

All 6D says is Foreign resource amount included in dividends. All I have for 6 Foreign tax paid. Are they the same. Have no other breakdown.

My tax and year-end statement shows 1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-OID,and 1099-DIV in 4 separate boxes on page 1.  Subsequent pages have details for these and have a column for Foreign Tax Paid.  Most of my dividends do not have an entry, but some do.  There is also a box at the end showing the dividend totals for US corps and foreign corps, with the total for Foreign Tax Paid.  Call your investment company if hey did not provide the detail.

Advice here indicated to put a 0 in the DIV Worksheet for 6d, but there is no 6d on the DIV worksheet.

my Merrill-Lynch info, which I imported, does list both the Source Amounts and the Foreign Tax paid. Apparently TT does not use all this available Info ? and only uses the 1099s ????

If Merrill gives it, please use it. This flaw has been badly addressed by TT, and will make me very unlikely to come back again. Any company can make a mistake, it's how you deal with it that counts for most people.

I spent 1.25 hours on the phone with "Help" and they didn't know about the Flaw links that my Broker found for me. Please inform your "Help" people of this TT flaw.
