I paid sales tax on a new car and then moved to another state and paid sales tax again. Is the sales tax I paid in the new state deductible?

The original sales tax was paid in PA in 2012 and we moved to Delaware in 2016 and had to paid a % of the cars value for a sales tax.

Yes, it is.

You can deduct sales tax paid to any number of states that you lived in.

The sales tax rate is based on your income. TurboTax will ask for  dates and percentage for each state. When one state is entered, simply add another. The software will take the state sales tax or the income tax withholding, whichever is higher.

To enter sales tax:

  1. Federal Taxes
  2. Deductions and Credits
  3. Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  4. Sales Tax
