I own two homes; can I deduct the property taxes on both homes. One is mortgaged (the primary residence) and one is being prepped for sale in 2017?

I own two homes...primary is mortgaged, second is paid for and will be prepped for sale in 2017.

Can the property taxes on both houses be deducted from my taxes? And how do I do it, if possible?

Mortgage interest and property taxes paid for the personal residences you own, not used as rentals or in a business, Primary and Second home, can be deducted as itemized deductions on Form 1040 Schedule A.  Reporting for each residence is entered in the same section of the program.

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Your Home, choose the sections for Mortgage Interest and Property Taxes
