I need to issue a 1098 for mortgage interest on a seller finance. Do I have to give the buyer my social security number?

You do not need to send a form 1098 if you are owner financing of the home. You would only file a Form 1098 if you are in the business of providing mortgage financing.

Yes, you would need to provide your buyer with your social security number or an employer identification number (EIN) so he/she can claim a mortgage interest deduction within his/her tax return.
