I moved to Florida last year and work remotely for the same employer. I was taxed for Wisconsin on my W-2 for the whole year. How do I get reimbursed for 6 months?

I couldn't figure out how to enter the information in the software.  I really don't want to screw this up, because it ends up being quite a lot of money I'm owed back from Wisconsin.

Enter your W-2 exactly as is.  Then complete a part-year resident WI tax return, and for your WI income enter only the portion of your income that you earned before you became a Florida resident.  You became a FL resident for tax purposes on the day you moved into your new permanent home in Florida.  WI will refund the excess withholding to you.

If you haven't done so already, advise your payroll department that you are no longer subject to WI withholding.

TomD8, thanks.  I've already informed my company and they've fixed it for all new checks.  So can I do all of this in a single instance of a tax return in Turbotax, or will it be 2 different instances?  Also, would it be beneficial for my wife and I to file separately with this new complication?

You can do all this by filing single part-year resident WI tax return.  Enter FL as your state of residence in the Personal Info section of TT, say yes that you lived in another state in 2018, and enter WI as the other state.  Then allot your income as I described.   TT will generate a part-year WI tax return.  If your wife had WI-source income in 2018, in most cases filing the WI as a joint return would be preferable.
