I made a cash contribution to my HSA. I took the standard deduction so I didn't itemize anything. Why is this cash amount being added to the 24000 standard deduction?

What screen are you looking at?  If you are looking at the Summary screen at the end of the Deductions and Credits section, then this is just a visual representation of your deductions.  Its added together to come up with a "total deductions" number for your reference.  It's not added together on the actual forms themselves.

You do get a deduction for this contribution - but its an above the line adjustment to income and will show on Line 25, Schedule 1, Form 1040.  Your standard deduction will show separately on the forms on Line 8 of Form 1040
